Quoted as “Best coffee I have ever had. Can’t wait to see how this company grows” by a well known local anaesthetist, who is a respected caffeine aficinado. This bittersweet business was born out of joy and sadness. Josie Coffee beans are about to ignite hipster instagram feeds across the world over. The brain child of Chris Edden, a guy that may have played on my basketball team once, known in coffee circles as “The Coffee Police”. His product is so cutting edge and fresh that the website is still under construction.
Quotes stolen out of context from a random Facebook feed on a friend’s page. Chris Edden: “We are a roastery based in Lake Macquarie. We will be selling online and a few outlets. Will be supplying some cafes in the near future. For espresso I generally run this 1:2 brew ratio. I run 16g in, 32-34g out in around 30 seconds from activation of the pump”.
I’m no Coffee Doctor, and I’m not sure what any of that means, but I’m confused and most importantly excited. I’ve experienced one very strong coffee using Josie with a white chocolate and raspberry muffin, and now I no longer care if the temperature is 7 degrees today. Winter has been cured.
Josie Coffee was founded from a passion for great coffee. We are a family owned and operated business based in Newcastle NSW. Josie Coffee is owned and operated by Chris and his wife Kate, who is a graphic designer. Our logo was designed by Kate as a tribute to Josephine Edden (Josie). Josie was unexpectedly taken from us at the young age of 23 in a tragic accident in the Melbourne CBD in February 2015. Coffee was a massive part of Josie’s life, starting out as a Barista at Gloria Jeans in her hometown of Newcastle at age 14. She quickly boosted her skills as a barista and continued to work there throughout her High School years. Her passion for coffee led her to move to Melbourne at age 18 and quickly pick up work in the coffee industry. Josie immersed herself in the Melbourne coffee industry and became an integral member of a large coffee business. In every cup Josie’s passion for coffee continues.
As a person passionate about sustainability, it’s good to see Josie Coffee supporting recyclable pod capsules for those of your under the spell of Satan George Clooney and the Nespresso Pod Epidemic. What else? And when I feel like giving up, Like my world is falling down, (I know that everything [3x]), Everything’s gonna be fine, (I know that everything [3x]), Everything’s gonna be fine, Everything’s gonna be fine.
